Subject: What’s your purpose?

Text: When I was younger I thought the purpose of life was to be happy. And my quest was for genuine happiness. As I grew, my outlook changed, and I began to believe the purpose of life was to be a good person, and to leave the world a little better than I found it.

I’ve recently reached 40 years and as I enter my middle years, I’ve started to have a change of heart yet again. And I find myself wondering if there is any purpose whatsoever. If anything I do means anything. The thought is both disturbing and freeing at the same time. Mostly disturbing. Midlife crisis?

I’m single. I have kids. I have friends. I have a job I love. Sometimes I’m lonely. Sometimes I wish for another to walk through this life with. Sometimes I just wish for another to sleep through the night with.
